In order to give you room to celebrate the Christ child’s birth this weekend, we’re taking a break from our normal format to share just one thing, a Christmas Eve devotional.
He came to his own, and his own people did not receive him.
– John 1:11
The Gospel of John opens with one of the clearest, most beautiful pictures of who Jesus is, but it also contains this tragic verse. The theme of his rejection by the unopen, unloving, unwilling, and unwelcoming is woven through his life from birth to death. The world had no place for him.
Jesus promised he was going away to make a place for us. In the meantime, are we making a place for him? How does “every heart prepare him room,” and what might happen if we all found a way to give Jesus more space in our lives?
